RE

It is our aim to aid pupils to understand and develop their awareness of the value of the thoughts and actions of every human individual, including them!

Key Stage 3

We start Year 7 with a brief look at the nature of belief in general and a sweep of the main ideas of Christianity, Islam and Buddhism before looking at ‘Ideas about God’ and then ‘Founders of Faith’. The wide perspective of these topics allows pupils to appreciate many strands of religious and philosophical thought. Finally, we look at ‘Religion and Science’ in the summer term.

In Year 8 the pupils undertake a study of ‘Rites of Passage’, ‘Ethics and Religion’, ‘Pilgrimage’ and ‘Places of Worship,’ focussing on Christianity, Hinduism and Sikhism in each topic.

During Year 9 we look at Judaism, culminating in three projects through the year. They cover Food Laws, Shabbat and a case study on the Holocaust.

Key Stage 4

We follow the OCR World Religion (J120) Short Course for RE. It covers the following topics:

Year 10 - Islam (B577)

Year 11 -  Christian Ethics (B603)

The exam consists of two papers, one for each topic. Students answer four questions in total.  No coursework is required.
