PSHE

PSHE is taught to all pupils in the school for one period each week using a rotation system.  Teachers specialise in one subject each and the students rotate around the staff.

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills are fully integrated within the PSHE curriculum at Burford, with Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning supporting students’ emotional development.

PSHE draws together personal wellbeing, social and health education (including sex education) and the social and emotional aspects of learning. We also examine economic wellbeing, which draws together economic understanding, careers education, enterprise, financial capability and work-related learning.

Citizenship gives students the knowledge, skills and understanding to play an effective role in society at local, national and international levels. It allows students to become informed, thoughtful and responsible citizens who are aware of their duties and rights. It promotes their spiritual, moral social and cultural development, making them more self-confident and responsible both in and beyond the classroom. Additionally, it encourages students to play a helpful part in the life of their schools, neighbourhoods, communities and the wider world. Students learn about our economy, democratic institutions and values, and are encouraged to show respect for different national, religious and ethnic identities, whilst developing their ability to reflect on issues and take part in discussions.

Burford is active on an international level, driving policy and education focusing on a range of world issues. This creates an added dimension for our students.
