Careers
Students have an opportunity to discuss the range of career paths open to them and to find out detailed information about particular jobs from a range of sources, including our computer data base.
More practical job-hunting skills, such as completing application forms and interview techniques are taught in Year 11.
Also, students will receive individual interviews with the Connexions Careers Advisor about their options post-16.
Work Experience
All of our students in Year 10 are given the opportunity to undertake a 1 week, work-experience placement. This normally takes place during the penultimate week of the Summer Term in July. In addition, Year 12 students are given a further opportunity to do an additional week or two of work experience should they wish - again during the Summer Term in July.
Work experience is viewed as a valuable opportunity for many reasons:
- It gives students the chance to understand the world of work and to explore their career ideas.
- It enables students to see how school subjects may be applied within the workplace.
- It helps students to gain in confidence and to improve and appreciate their skills and talents.
Students have undertaken work experience with a wide variety of employers both within Oxfordshire and beyond. A positive work experience placement may enable students to increase their prospects of being offered an apprenticeship, part-time employment or a place on a vocational course at university, such as Medicine, Nursing, Architecture or Engineering.
Work Experience reinforces the skills that students learn through the Careers Education Programme as students may be required to complete c/vs, letters of application and attend interviews in order to obtain a work experience placement.
Students in Year 10 are awarded a Work Experience Certificate on successful completion of their work experience.
